Thoughts on Phantomarine

Favorite character

Lani! She's so much fun to read, and I can't wait to see how she reacts when she sees her 'mother' again.

Favorite moment

Chapters 2 and 3 did such a great job setting up Pavel's relationship with Vanna. The way Pavel looks up to his mom, the way Vanna always looks out for her son... all that and more really show how close they are. How could I not love them?

And then Vanna dies.

Poor Pavel. His home, his trust in seabitten, and his only family are ripped away from him in one night. Then, the tension as he runs away only makes it worse(I especially like the layout in page 3.33, The Dark Shoreline). Put together, it makes for one of my favorite scenes in the comic.

Halea was a great plot twist!

The first time I saw Halea, I assumed she would be a minor 'blind seer' character. Then, by the the time chapter 3 ended, I decided she was a villain answering to and granted powers by Cheline. That's what made the Cheline reveal so cool! She doesn't just know more than everyone else, she's actively pulling the wool over their eyes. The first time I read Chapter 6, I already thought it was well-done (Phantomarine is full of foreshadowing and very fun to theorize about).
